3010 AD

3010 AD
by Nickolas F.
At some futuristic Bible study group
the discussion may go like this:
"Y'all sinners, Shame.
Y'all ancestors had more faith in God
in their little pinky than you in your entire body.
Shame, shame, shame.
A thousand years ago
they were close to God.
So close
they saw God
like a Great Eye In the Sky.
So Close
every day
they prayed for direction
in their everyday life.
They believed
that God knew
where they were
and told them where to
Fly.
Take Heed!
Follow their pathway
pray to God as their did."
"What name did they call God."
the many shouted back.
"Did their still call him
Geez--us?"
"Yes, but
pronounced it
Gee Pee Ess.

WANT TO KEEP A SECRET?

THE ZOO

What better place to study evolution.

Lucy sits separate, eyeing warily the other members of the clan,
as she fondles her young, plucking fleas from the two day old fur.

Herman, the elder, sits lazily at the other end of the enclosure,
having the same done to him by two younger apes.
Herman, the younger, circles the elder, a swatch of leaves in his hand,
a tease rather than a weapon, waiting.
The elder is still strong.
All the rest  groom each other one way or another.

 As I watch,
the radio in my ear blasts out
Rush Limbaugh
Grooming his
Xenophobic patriots,
Eating the profits as he moves along.

Of course, we have evolved.

Just look at the light in your refrigerator.

Places and places

Riverside welcomes all.

Pearl Harbor picture

A friend of Sir Jerry Smith set him several original photos of Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. Here is one of them.

EYES
by
Nickolas F.
Eyes, the special kind
that say welcome to mine.
Eyes green cool and limpid
or with envy.
Eyes that see right through me.
Lovingly guiding
Eyes below arched brows,
Eyes of a sixth grade teacher.
A child¹s eyes filled with admiration
looking up
at eyes of common virtue
Eyes that reject hate without hating.
Eyes that squint with mistrust.
Eyes that misgauge
yet avoid those
Eyes of road rage.
Eyes ‹ the window to the soul
as they press tightly shut
hiding behind prayer.
And then those special shifty eyes
the kind that look you straight in the eye.

Pluto, a Poem

A COSMIC SHAKEUP
OR
MY VERY EARNEST MOTHER JUST SERVED US NOTHING
By Nickolas F.

And then there were eight.
Slam bang
just like that
A changed word or two
Pluto gets the gate.

Nine pizzas
now nothing.
Disney’s dog
a Pekingese?
Canned tomatoes
fruit? If you please.

Why regret
Your orbit and body
out of shape.
So are mine.
there’s no escape

Your fate
forebodes
some future date
when substance becomes spirit
Grin and bear it.
